Psychodynamic Approach

Psychodynamic counseling is based on the understanding of psychoanalytic thinking. It follows the assumption that an unconscious exists within us. These unconscious forces are reflected in our behavior and have an effect on us (sometimes negatively). Early experiences shape us and influence important relationships. Unresolved conflicts can then lead to psychological disorders.

In contrast to psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychodynamic counseling is a much shorter and less intensive process that focuses on problem solving and support rather than healing and working through serious illnesses. In psychodynamic counseling, existing strengths are mobilized to remove the unconscious obstacles that are causing the current problem. Current conflicts are seen in connection with previous experiences and the focus is on understanding the "symptom" where unconscious fears, motivations, wishes or symptoms sometimes hide behind.

Counseling is therefore particularly useful in current crises and when there are difficulties in adapting.
